Recap | 10-man Rapids drop 0-1 road result with St. Louis CITY SC

The Colorado Rapids (6-10-1, 19 pts., 11th West) fell on the road to St. Louis CITY SC (7-6-4, 25 pts., 7th West) 1-0 at Energizer Park on Saturday night. 

Heading into the night fresh off a victory this past Wednesday, Colorado was looking for more of the same against a scorching hot St. Louis CITY SC side that was unbeaten through their previous six matches. 

St. Louis started the match with the advantage in pressure, spending some time in the final third within the first ten minutes.  

The match saw its first major shift come in the 12th minute when Rapids defender Rob Holding was issued a red card.  

Now down a man, Colorado had to readjust their game plan with a substitute in an attempt to bolster the depleted back line. Matt Wells brought in defender Miguel Navarro, who added an extra layer of strength defensively. 

From there, the Rapids held their own and prevented St. Louis from creating any high-quality opportunities for the remainder of the half. The home side’s best shot of the match came late in the half, but goalkeeper Nico Hansen was there to prevent any further danger. 

The two sides went into the half scoreless, with Colorado looking to continue their strong defensive play for the remainder of the match. 

Colorado made a pair of substitutes coming out of the half, with Georgi Minoungou and Noah Cobb coming on in the hopes of strengthening both the attack and defense.  

St. Louis created a positive chance early, resulting in a shot finding the back of the net, but it was quickly called offside to keep the match scoreless. 

The Rapids defense continued to hold down the fort, making key blocks to try and keep CITY off the board. 

Despite Colorado’s best efforts, St. Louis broke the ice in the 84th minute, when Tomas Ostrak sent in a bending shot to put his side up 1-0. 

That would be all for the scoring in the match, with CITY SC taking all three points.
