The Colorado Rapids (4-4-4, 16 pts.) fell to San Jose Earthquakes (5-6-1, 16 pts.) in a 0-2 loss on Saturday night at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park. Midfielder Conor Ronan made his first start of the 2025 season.

Heading into the night, both sides had their eyes on three points, with the Rapids looking to bounce back after a loss last weekend and San Jose looking to continue their recent stretch of form.

Colorado started out on the front foot and created opportunities in the final third but were unable to find any goals to open the scoring. Midfielder Ronan, who was making his first start of the 2025 MLS season, had the club’s best opportunity in the first half but sent a shot just over the crossbar.

Despite the Rapids creating a majority of the chances, it would be San Jose who managed to grab the match’s opening goal. After receiving a cross from VĆtor Costa, Earthquakes defender Dejuan Jones, slotted home a shot into the lower right corner.

The scoreline would stay at 0-1 heading into the halftime break.

The Earthquakes managed to double their lead in the 67th minute. Following a turnover, forward Chicho Arango was in on a breakaway and sent a shot into the back of the net to go up 0-2.

That would be all for the scoring on Saturday night, with San Jose taking all three points on the road.

Head Coach Chris Armas shared his thoughts on the result:

ā€œIt's a locker room that won't accept it. It's a coaching staff and club that won't accept settling and not finding a way. That's the general feeling right now, the locker room knows that we want more and that we're better than that. We have a big week ahead, a lot to play for. It's not a time that we're pointing fingers, and certainly not heads down around here. It's a good team, it's a fighting spirit, and these losses hurtā€.

Homegrown midfielder Cole Bassett expanded on the team’s upcoming stretch of matches:

ā€œI think having a turnaround mindset where you can go into the next game and kind of forget about some of the bad things that you did. Going to a place like San Diego, where we know they're going to try to play out of the back, and that's going to give us chances to press them and hopefully give us opportunities. I don't think Salt Lake needs any explanation on how important that is for the club and the fan base. So, we'll get to that one after Wednesday, but I think that one will be huge to take the first step towards the Rocky Mountain Cupā€.

Colorado will shift their focus to a matchup on the road against San Diego FC this Wednesday. Kickoff at Snapdragon Stadium is set for 8:30 p.m. MT with coverage available on MLS Season Pass with Apple TV, ColoradoRapids.com, and the Colorado Rapids app.
