Notes

  • The Rapids are returning to U.S. Open Cup play for the first time since 2019, where they were knocked out by USL side New Mexico United after a penalty kick shootout.
  • 2022 MLS SuperDraft pick Anthony Markanich is making his first start and appearance in burgundy in Wednesday's Round of 32 matchup. The defender out of Northern Illinois University has made numerous appearances for the club's MLS NEXT Pro side Rapids 2, and recorded minutes in the Rapids' preseason scrimmages with against Houston Dynamo, Seattle Sounders and Sporting KC.
  • DP striker Gyasi Zardes is unable to feature for the Rapids on Wednesday night due to his previous participation in the tournament this year with Columbus Crew.
  •  Each round of the USOC is single elimination so the Rapids must win on Wednesday night in order to advance to the Round of 16 for the first time since 2017, which was also the last time Colorado faced an MLS opponent in the competition.
  • Wednesday's game against the Loons is the second time the two sides have met in 2022. In April, the Rapids fell 3-1 in Minnesota, but this will be a first meeting in what is the oldest soccer competition still active in the United States.
