Sam Cronin Q&A: Colorado Rapids' draw with Earthquakes, team's energy level, more

Following the Rapids' scoreless draw with the Earthquakes on Saturday night, Colorado midfielder Sam Cronin spoke to the media about whether the match felt like a let-down, the energy level and much more.

On tonight’s result ...

"I thought we were pretty solid defensively. I'll have to look back at it, but I feel like we lost a lot of second balls. There wasn't really much in the game, it was kind of just a scrappy one. Our chances came off little scrappy plays and so did theirs. Felt pretty good, pretty solid, but there was just not enough dynamic play going forward for us."

On whether the result feels like a let-down ...

"Yes, it does. It keeps us ticking over and moving on and unbeaten at home still, which is great, but I think we left a little bit of meat on the bone this game. We had some good chances, and a great opportunity with Dallas tying, to jump up a little bit and inch a little bit closer. So I think we're disappointed with the tie; we expect to win here at home. We just didn't do quite enough, so it's on us. We weren't unlucky, we just didn’t quite play good enough."

On any big halftime changes, if any ...

"No, not drastic. I thought we were pretty good in the first half. We limited their chances and honestly we were one pass away from getting in on goal a number of times, so that was great. Badji was a handful all night, he played great. Obviously, the next step is for him to finish those chances and be ruthless in front of goal, but he was probably the best player on the night for us. We were good, we just weren't quite good enough."

On the energy level for the remaining games ...

"Week to week, everything kind of changes. Injuries, mood, just everything. I think we didn't come out with quite enough conviction to just win the game. We played alright, just not enough. If we want to be a top team who makes a lot of noise in the playoffs, we've got to sharpen up a little bit. Granted we're missing quite a few of our top players as well. If we get some of those players back and everyone else keeps working hard then we're in a great spot and we're going to make a good push here.

A missed opportunity for us tonight to really make a good jump and get three more points. We'll have to improve for next week and be ready for Vancouver."
