Ten things we learned from the Rapids' 2-1 loss against Portland Timbers

By the numbers: here are 10 stats from the Colorado Rapids' 2-1 loss to Portland Timbers at Providence Park on Wednesday night.

1. Midfielder Mohammed Saeid scored his first goal in MLS, on his 72nd regular season appearance. He had previously notched 15 goals in 124 appearances while in his native Sweden.


2. The Rapids managed 12 shots against the Timbers - the most they have managed in any of their 11 road games.


3. Tim Howard faced a third penalty in two visits to Providence Park. David Guzman dragged his effort wide on Wednesday night. Fanendo Adi scored one and missed one in the 1-0 win for the Timbers last October.


4. Luis Gil started his first game for the Rapids, following his move from Orlando City SC on August 10. He played 26 minutes as a substitute last weekend in the 1-0 home loss to D.C. United.


5. For Joshua Gatt, this was his first start since the match in Atlanta on June 24. He played 63 minutes before being replaced by Dominique Badji.


6. Marlon Hairston started on the bench, but stepped in for the returning Dillon Serna with 33 minutes remaining. Hairston is the only Rapids player to have featured in all 24 games this season.


7. For the second time since its introduction, Video Review was used in a game involving the Rapids. Portland were awarded a penalty after Mike da Fonte was adjudged to have tugged on the jersey of Diego Valeri in the box.


8. Trinidad and Tobago international, Mekeil Williams, played 90 minutes for the first time since July 1. He was making his first appearance since July 4.


9. Eric Miller went past 6,000 minutes in MLS, playing the full 90 at center back. It was the fourth time this season that he had played centrally, and the first time alongside Kortne Ford.


10. Micheal Azira celebrated his 30th birthday on Tuesday, and on Wednesday made his 50th start for the Rapids.
