Ten things we learned from the Rapids' 2-1 loss to Vancouver Whitecaps FC

2017.09.25 Ten things

By the numbers: here are 10 stats from the Colorado Rapids' 2-1 loss at BC Place against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday night.

1.Dominique Badji scored for a third successive game. The last Rapids player to do this was Vicente Sanchez in March 2014. The Uruguayan scored four goals in three games, with all four being from the penalty spot.

2. Badji was making his 50th start in MLS. He now has 17 goals in 70 appearances.

3. The Rapids fielded an unchanged lineup for a third successive game. The last time this occurred was in 2010, with the following starters: Pickens; Earls, Moor, Wynne, Baudet; Ballouchy, Mastroeni, Thompson, Larentowicz; Casey, Cummings.

4. Defender Eric Miller made his 26th appearance of the season, equaling a career-high set last year with the Rapids. He has started all 26 appearances, which is three more starts than 2016.

5. The former Montreal Impact player has now played 2,256 minutes this season, which is also a career-high.

6.Stefan Aigner played the last 30 minutes, in what was his fourth appearance for the club - all as a substitute. This is the most minutes managed by the German since making his debut at LA Galaxy on September 2.

7.Micheal Azira has still to score in MLS, but he came close at the Whitecaps with a shot which David Ousted did well to block. A defensive player by nature, it was his fourth shot on goal this season. He managed a total of just two shots on target in his previous three seasons in MLS.

8.Alan Gordon came off the bench at BC Place, for his 21st appearance in Rapids colors. He has been used as a substitute in 13 of the last 16 games.

9.Marlon Hairston has now started 25 of his 29 appearances this season. That is one shy of the total number of starts he enjoyed during his first three seasons in MLS.

10. With two road games remaining, the Rapids are now 1-12-2 away from Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, which is enough for just five points. Their previous low on the road came in 2014, when they managed nine points with a 2-12-3 road record.
