2017.08.28 Ten things

By the numbers: here are 10 stats from the Colorado Rapids' 4-1 loss to Real Salt Lake at Rio Tinto Stadium on Saturday night.

1. Joshua Gatt scored his first goal in MLS, with a header beyond Nick Rimando on 82 minutes. The goal was eventually given, following Video Review, after initially being ruled offside by the on-field officials.

2. Forward Alan Gordon will miss the trip to his former club, LA Galaxy, having been sent off in the match at RSL.

3. Micheal Azira became the first Rapids player to break through the 2,000-minute mark in 2017. He came off the bench at halftime, in place of Nana Boateng.

4. Uganda international Azira tallied his second assist of the season, with the delivery for Gatt’s goal. He now has three career assists in MLS, all of which have come during his time with the Rapids.

5. The Rapids conceded a penalty for the second successive game. They have now given up six spot-kicks, with five being converted. Only Minnesota United FC and New York Red Bulls (both seven) have conceded more pk’s.

6. Luis Gil made his third appearance for the Rapids, and second consecutive start. It was also a second appearance this season against RSL. He came on as a substitute for Orlando City on June 30, in what was RSL’s last home loss. Gil began his career in Utah, and went on to feature in 134 games for the Claret-and-Cobalt.

7. Designated Player Shkëlzen Gashi went the distance for the first time in four appearances. His previous 90 minutes, prior to injury, came in the 2-1 home win over Columbus Crew SC on June 3.

8. First-time MLS scorers have netted for the Rapids in their two most recent games - Mohammed Saeid (at Portland), and Joshua Gatt. Both arrived this season from Minnesota United FC.

9. Eleven different players have contributed to the Rapids’ 24 goals.

10. With Minnesota’s win in Chicago at the weekend, the Rapids remain one of only two teams awaiting their first road win of 2017. The other team is New England Revolution.
