Chivas USA scored first in the ninth minute. Jonathan Bornstein was put into space by Juan Pablo Garcia. Bornstein’s touch failed him as Joe Cannon came out and stopped his shot at the top of the box. The rebound fell to Francisco Palencia however who made no mistake in giving the visitors the lead.

One minute later the Rapids equalized through the man who has yet to play a game against Chivas without scoring a goal. Jovan Kirovski received a ball from Kyle Beckerman and turned to see Dedi Ben-Dayan running free down the left side of the field. The Israeli took the pass and scored his fifth goal in five games lifetime against Chivas USA.

In the 17th minute the same combination nearly led to another Rapids goal. This time however Kirovski’s pass was just a little behind Ben-Dayan and a Chivas defender was able to clear the ball.

Kirovski nearly scored a goal of his own in the 24th minute. Terry Cooke stormed down the right side and played a cross that Kirovski barely missed on a header.

Joe Cannon made another breakaway save on Bornstein in the 48th minute to keep the game level.

The Rapids received some help from the woodwork in the 51st minute when Bornstein again was open for a shot but this time it deflected off his teammate and into the crossbar.

Clint Mathis put the Rapids up 2-1 in the 67th minute with his second goal as a substitute in two consecutive games. Cooke received a rebound off one of his crosses and cut in between two Chivas defenders to deliver the ball to Mathis who buried it in the back of the net.

In the 69th minute Mike Petke received his second yellow card on the night on a seemingly innocuous collision with one of the Chivas players. Petke who had received his first yellow early in the first half walked off the field with disbelief in his eyes at referee Andrew Chapin's decision.

Bornstein broke through for Chivas in the 74th minute. The rookie cut back to defeat two defenders and scored to the far post to equalize.

Bornstein then scored his second goal in second half stoppage time to give Chivas the lead but the Rapids weren’t ready to finish the game just yet.

Cooke collected his second assist of the game when he flicked the ball over a Chivas player spun around and sped down the right side line. The Englishman’s cross took one bounce before Jacob Peterson redirected the ball into the net to equalize as second half stoppage time was winding down and to end the game with a 3-3 draw.

Colorado will play its next MLS game next Wednesday July 26 at 7:30 p.m. against the Houston Dynamo at INVESCO Field at Mile High. This match will also feature the Rapids' pregame Hawaiian Happy Hour promotion.

In the second match of last night's doubleheader which was a part of the Rapids' annual Budweiser Hispanic Heritage Night celebration Mexico's Club America downed San Luis 3-0.
