Match Preview: Rapids Look to Sweep DC on Saturday

COMMERCE CITY COLO. ( - Your Colorado Rapids look to sweep their season series vs. D.C. United this Saturday July 18 as they travel to Washington to take on United.
Kickoff is set for 6:00pm MT at RFK Stadium this Saturday and the match will be broadcast live in Colorado on Altitude.
Your Rapids are 1-0-0 on the season thus far vs. D.C. and with a win at United on Saturday can sweep the season series between the two clubs.
Colorado head to Washington holding down the 4th spot in the Western Conference with a record of 6-4-6 for 24 points.

D.C. having played one more game on the season thus far than the Rapids currently occupy the 3rd spot in the East with the same number of points as Colorado with a record of 5-3-9 for 24 points.

This will be the second and final match between these two clubs this season. Their last encounter was at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on June 20th when Colorado thrashed United 3-0 off goals from Colin Clark and an MLS Player Of the Week performance by Omar Cummings who notched a brace and an assist on the night.
Colorado hold a 10-14-6 all time record vs. D.C. United with an unenviable 2-9-4 all-time record at RFK Stadium. The Rapids have never claimed more than one victory in any given season against the Black and Red in 14 years of competition and are searching for their first win at RFK
Stadium since July 10 1999. The only other Colorado road win in this series came in a shootout on August 2 1997.
The Rapids have a quick turn-around coming into this game following their tilt with legendary Mexican side Club America on Wednesday night at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The mid-week game only gives Colorado one day of training before their flight to Washington D.C. Friday morning.
The Rapids will be looking once again to take former Rapids midfielder Christian Gomez out of the game for D.C. a feat they effectively accomplished when they shut him down in their first encounter this year.
The Rapids have a new addition to their roster available for this weekend as French defender Julien Baudet could make his MLS debut. Baudet signed with the Rapids on June 30 with Saturday’s match being his first potential regular season playing date with the club following the opening of the international transfer window on July 15.
Baudet will be a welcome addition to the Rapids' backline as Colorado will be without the services of one of their players again due to a one game league suspension for caution accumulation. Last week it was Cory Gibbs and this week will be Ugo Ihemelu.
While Baudet is entering new territory Rapids head coach Gary Smith returns to the site of his first official game as interim head coach last season where his shorthanded squad fell 0-3 on August 23.
RFK Stadium is also the site of the Rapids' only trip to the MLS Cup which they reached in 1997 when they faced off against this same United in front of a decidely non-partisan crowd who tipped the scales in favor of the home team.
This Saturday night's game will be broadcast in Colorado on Altitude. Calling the game for Altitude will be Cory Lopez (play-by-play) and Marcelo Balboa (color).
