Rapids Acquire 2007 Draft Pick From Real Salt Lake in Trade for Jordan Cila; Sullivan Retires

DENVER CO (Colorado Rapids Media Relations)- The Colorado Rapids acquired today a conditional 2007 Second Round MLS SuperDraft pick from Real Salt Lake in exchange for forward Jordan Cila.

Cila who will enter his second year as a professional soccer player had recently signed a Senior Roster contract with the Rapids. The former Duke University striker started 15 games in 2004 netting 4 goals and recording two assists for the Black and Blue.

In other news Rapids defender Gary Sullivan announced his temporary retirement from soccer to return to college and finish his degree. The former Adelphi University team captain started a total of four games for the Black and Blue in 2004 accumulating a total of 339 minutes on the field during his rookie year in MLS.

"With all my injuries last year it was very frustrating said Sullivan. "Having finished 3 years of school and not graduating it only makes sense for me to go back and get that last year done. That definitely doesn’t mean I’m done with soccer. At this time going back to school to finish my degree is very important and something I want to do before going further with my soccer career."

The Rapids will retain Sullivan’s rights in MLS.
