Hosting the competition is a group of fans from both clubs that came together after the announcement of the Western Conference expansion team. Known as the Committee Of 10 (or C10) this collection of fans has spent the past season designing the competition and rules -- which can be found online at www.RockyMountainCup.com -- as well as working closely with the management of both clubs in fundraising auctions to defray the costs of a beautiful trophy.
Well fans C10 is pleased to report that The Rocky Mountain Cup is finally finished!
Having been custom-crafted in Europe and flown to Colorado where (or so the Rapids fans hope) it will make its home. And the trophy has gotten here just in time as the second and third matches of the Cup competition come to Invesco Field at Mile High when the Rapids twice host the struggling RSL contingent in a 10-day span of time (Wed. Sept. 21 and Sat. Oct. 1).
The fourth and final game of the RMC will take place in Salt Lake City on October 12th the Rapids' last regular-season match.
Rapids fans and traveling RSL fans will have their first glimpse of the Cup itself during the official unveiling of the trophy which will take place on home soil on the evening of October 1st in a pregame ceremony prior to the Rapids' home game at Invesco Field.
The first-ever meeting between the two clubs took place on April 16th with a fortunate strike by RSL emerging as the lone tally of the game giving RSL the Cup edge and a highlight of an otherwise difficult season for them.
