Academy on Campus: Serna leads #2 Zips to 8th straight win

A bi-weekly update on Colorado Rapids Academy alumni playing in schools across the country as of October 9, 2012:

Jacob Beerman – Metro State University (9-6-1) – Sophomore midfielder come on as a sub in two of Metro State's last three matches, both 4-0 wins over Colorado Christian (10/12) and Adams State (10/21), in which he registered his first assist of the season on the team's last goal. He did not appear in his school's vs Colorado Mesa on Oct. 19. For the season he has played in 12 matches.

Marc Herschberger – Metro State University (9-6-1) – Senior forward has started all 16 matches and scored nine goals, including one in each of the recent wins over Colorado Christian and Adams State. His nine goals have him tied with Danny Arrubla for the team lead.

Rojesh Shrestha – Metro State University – Freshman midfielder from Boulder has yet to appear in a game.

Jordan Spring – Regis University (13-0-1) – The sophomore defender came on as a substitute in each of the last three matches for the undefeated Rangers, a 4-1 win at Colorado Christian, a 5-2 win over Fort Lewis, and a 4-1 win over Colorado Mesa. Regis is ranked #1 nationally in Division II on Oct. 23.

Zachary Bolden – University of Denver (8-4-3) – Junior midfielder is one of only three players to start all 15 games for the Pioneers. He has scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the 6-0 rout of Houston Baptist on Oct. 12 to bring his goals tally to four. He also leads the team in assists with six. After the win over Houston Baptist, Denver lost 2-0 to New Mexico (10/14), defeated San Jose State 4-0 (10/19), and beat Seattle 1-0 (10/21).

Karsten Hanlin – University of Denver – Freshman from Centennial has yet to appear in a match.

Colton Briscoe – University of Colorado - CO. Springs (8-6-1) – Junior defender from Colorado Springs has started 14 of the 15 games for the Mountain Lions, who reached the RMAC Tournament with a 6-2 win over Colorado Christian on Oct. 19.

Luke Chapman – University of Colorado - CO. Springs (8-6-1) – Sophomore midfielder from Fort Collins - who transfered from Midwestern State - has started 11 of the Mountain Lions' 15 games this season and scored his first goal of the year on the 6-2 win over Colorado Christian on Oct. 19.

Idrissa Camara – Midwestern State (TX) (8-2-4) – Freshman forward from Denver has appeared in 14 games, starting one. He came on as a sub on Oct. 21 in Midwestern State's overtime loss to #17 West Texas A&M.

Josue Chavez – Lipscomb University (TN) (4-10-0) – Freshman midfielder has started 14 of the 15 games for Lipscomb and has two goals and one assist on the year. His school's last match was a 1-0 overtime loss to Upstate.

James Rogers – University of New Mexico (12-3-0) – Sophomore forward has started 10 of the 12 games in which he's appeared and scored six goals while adding three assists. On Oct. 19, Rogers set up the first goal and then scored the second in the #10-ranked Lobos 11-0 rout of UNVL, the most goals New Mexico has ever scored against a Division I opponent. Rogers also started the last match, a 2-0 win over CSU Bakersfield (10/21).

Chris Gurule – University of New Mexico (12-3-0) – Freshman forward / midfielder from Longmont has yet to appear in a match this season.

Jeff Kading – Elmhurst College (8-9-0) – Freshman defender has started 16 games, however the Blue Jays have lost their last three - all on the road, including 2-0 to Milkin University on Oct. 20.

William Koki – Mercy College (NY) (10-4-2) – Senior forward has only started 7 of the 16 games, but continues leads Mercy with 10 goals and added three assists. Koki opened the scoring in the 8-1 rout of Felician (10/18), but couldn't help Mercy in their match 5-0 loss to Bridgepost on Oct. 20.

Logan Konkol – Kenyon College (OH) (8-5-2) – Sophomore midfielder has appeared in 13 games, making one start. Kenyon defeated Wabash College 1-0 on Oct. 20, with Konkol seeing time off the bench.

Joseph Kuzminsky – Alabama- Birmingham (8-5-2) – Freshman goalkeeper from Denver has yet to appear in a match this season. UAB, which will host the NCAA College Cup in December, defeated Marshall 2-1 on Oct. 20

Carlos Linares – Ft. Hays State University (KS) (9-4-2) – Sophomore defender scored once and added two assists in nine starts this year before his season ended when he broke his foot on Sept. 27 in a 1-0 loss to Lindenwood University.

Ryan Pakieser – Ft. Hays State University (9-4-2) – Sophomore from Lakewood had started seven games and posted a 1.57 goals against average before injurying his hand against Eastern New Mexico on Oct. 5 and has not played since.

Tanner McManus – Colorado School of Mines (10-3-2 ) – Sophomore defender, who was named to the RMAC Second Team All-Academic squad, has started 14 of the 15 matches and added two goals and one assist. The Orediggers defeated Colorado Christian 2-0 on Oct. 21 and face topped ranked Regis on Tuesday..

Zachary Paul – Vermont (6-5-4) – Senior forward has played in all 15 games, starting 14. He scored his first goal of the year on Oct. 6 in a 3-2 win over Hatford, hitting the game-winner in the 67’. Vermont and New Hamshire played to a scoreless tie on Oct. 20.

Jason Prichard – Sterling College (KS) (6-8-2) – Freshman defender has start all 16 games, most recently a 3-1 loss to Ottowa University on Oct. 22.

Brendan Roslund – University of San Francisco (4-4-2) – Senior goalkeeper from Denver has started all 12 games, allowing just 13 goals for a 1.02 goals against average. The Dons last match was a 2-0 loss to San Diego on Oct. 14. The schools meet again on Oct. 26.

Dillon Serna – University of Akron (11-1-2) – Freshman has played in all 14 games, making 13 starts and scoring two goals for the #2 ranked Zips. He is tied for the team lead with six assists on the year. Akron won their 8th match in a row on Oct. 20 in defeating West Virginia 2-1. The Zips will face The Ohio State University on Tuesday, Oct. 20 in a matched televised nationally by the Big Ten Network.

Patrick Slogic – Cornell University (12-1-0) – Junior defender and #10 ranked Cornell suffered their first loss of the season on Oct. 20, falling 2-0 to #18 Brown. Slogic has started all 13 matches for the Big Red.

Amara Ben Soumah – Illinois Central College (13-2-1) – Sophomore forward has scored in 10 straight matches for the Junior College Division 1 side, bringing his tally to 20 goals in 14 games on the season. He recorded his second hat trick of the season on Oct. 18 against Illinois Wesleyan University.

Drake Stewart – Wright State (3-10-1) – Junior has played in 12 of Wright State's matches, including the 2-1 loss at Ohio State on Oct. 19.

Matthew Taphorn – Central Arkansas (7-7-0) – Sophomore defender is one of six players to start all 14 games and leads the team in minutes played (1276). Central Arkansas broked a five-game skid on Oct. 17 with a 1-0 win over Missouri State, but lost to Evansville 1-0 on Oct. 20.

Vicente Vega – Adams State College (1-14-0) – Junior defender is one of only four players to play in all 15 games, however Adams State lost their 11th in a row on Oct. 21, 4-0 to Metro State. .
