Major League Soccer today announced that the venues for the seventh edition of Sueño MLS, Presented by Allstate, will be announced Sunday on Univision Network’s popular weekly sports entertainment program, República Deportiva (Sports Republic), which airs from 10 a.m. to noon in the Denver area.
Launched in 2007, Sueño MLS is an opportunity for young players to showcase their skills in front of MLS scouts and has seen multiple MLS teams host the nationally televised tryouts.
Rapids President Tim Hinchey told ColoradoRapids.com that the Rapids have been pursuing the event and is hopeful that the club is selected as one of the MLS markets - which would be a first.
“Sueño MLS is a great platform to show the country the great talent, coaching and facilities we have here at the Rapids and Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, together with a great league broadcast partner in Univision,” said Hinchey. “As we continue our push to bring top-quality, national programs and events to Colorado, we’re hopeful to be selected as one of the host cities for Sueño MLS, and eager to see the talent that is found through the program.”
República Deportiva co-hosts Fernando Fiore and Félix Fernández will be joined by former Rapids midfielder and Sueño MLS Ambassador and Colombian legend Carlos “El Pibe” Valderrama in announcing the host cities, tryout dates and other details.
Chivas USA's Jorge Villafaña (formerly Jorge Flores) was the inaugural winner and has established himself in MLS. The 2008 Dallas winner, Gabriel Funes Mori, stars for River Plate in Argentina along with his twin brother and fellow Sueño MLS finalist Jose.
