Defenders Davy Armstrong and Kory Kindle out due to injuries

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Thursday, August 22, 2013) – Colorado Rapids defenders Davy Armstrong and Kory Kindle will miss significant time due to injuries requiring surgery. In the coming days, Armstrong will undergo reparative surgery for a torn right anterior cruciate ligament, while Kindle will have surgery for a sports hernia.

Armstrong had been on loan with Phoenix FC since the end of July and suffered the injury while in Arizona. An MRI when he returned revealed that he had torn his right ACL. Dr. Wayne Gersoff will perform his surgery in the coming days and recovery is expected to take six months. Kindle, who has been sidelined for the last month due to a left ankle injury, was diagnosed with a sports hernia last week and has surgery scheduled for August 29 by Dr. Michael Napierkowski. He will likely miss three months for recovery.

While neither player has seen first-team action in 2013, Armstrong has appeared in eight MLS Reserve League matches for the Rapids while Kindle has played in seven during his rookie year.

The Rapids have a week off before returning to action on Saturday, August 31 at 6:30 p.m. MT at Sporting Kansas City, with the live coverage on Altitude featuring Richard Fleming and Marcelo Balboa starting at 6 p.m. MT. The next home match for Colorado comes on Saturday, September 14 at 7 p.m. MT at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
