Development Academy Update | April 22, 2019 -

The Rapids Development Academy U-17s made history as they advanced to the semifinals in the 2019 Generation adidas Cup for the first time. In the semis, they squared off with Mexican side Club Tijuana inside Toyota Stadium and took the lead in the first half after Donovan Roux forced Tijuana into conceding an own goal. Jason Robles doubled the lead for the Rapids after he volleyed home a second. Tijuana flipped the script in the second half as they scored three goals in extra time.

Rapids head coach Erik Bushey spoke with MLSSoccer.com after the game and said, “I’m not sure there was too much difference between the two halves, but, in the end, we could only make it through fifty minutes – not fifty minutes plus stoppage time.”

The U-17s ended the tournament with a 0-0 draw against D.C. United and finished in fourth place with a 2-3-2 record in the Premier Division.
