LAFC vs Colorado Rapids
MLS Regular Season, Week 31

It’s all about Decision Day...

With the season on the line, the Colorado Rapids (12-15-6, 9th in MLS Western Conference) were decisive in a 3-0 victory last Sunday when they topped FC Dallas. Not only did the win keep the Rapids’ Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoff hopes alive heading into the final week of the regular season, it put a damper on Dallas' chances as well. A 5-1-0 record under Robin Fraser to go along with the recent struggles of other teams has the Burgundy Boys on the cusp of clinching a playoff spot on Decision Day presented by AT&T.

So how can the Rapids clinch that coveted playoff spot? Take a look below:

  • Colorado win vs LAFC AND ...
  • FC Dallas lose vs Sporting KC AND ...
  • San Jose lose vs Portland

– OR –

  • Colorado win by 3 or more goals vs. LAFC AND ...
  • FC Dallas lose vs Sporting KC AND ...
  • San Jose tie vs Portland

If Colorado win by 2 goals, tiebreaker will be goals scored (COL: 57, SJ: 51).

It won’t be easy, but anything can happen.

LAFC still have plenty to play for...

Yes, LAFC have the Supporters' Shield clinched, but make no mistake, the Black & Gold have more than enough to play for on the final date of the 2019 fixture list.

Of course the second-year franchise wants to head into the playoffs at full strength, but they’re on the brink of history and as we’ve seen over the last two years with Toronto FC and Atlanta United, you’re not guaranteed to have sustained record-breaking success year-after-year. After looking like they would run away with every record in the books, things have slowed down and Bob Bradley's men need a win in order to secure the most points in MLS history. Carlos Vela is also one goal away from surpassing Josef Martinez’s single-season goal-scoring record.

Nobody in the Rapids camp is expecting LAFC to take their foot off the gas on Sunday, especially with a chance to cement a place in history.

Expect both teams to come out flying and look to control the game from the get go.
