Colorado Rapids Announce 25th Season Celebrations

2010 MLS Cup

The Colorado Rapids announced today their schedule of events for the 2020 season in celebration of the club’s 25th season in Major League Soccer.

“This season marks an important milestone in our club’s history,” said Wayne Brant, Colorado Rapids Sr. Vice President of Business Operations. “Twenty-five years ago, the groundwork was laid for the growth of this sport with the development of our league, and in the years since, we’ve been gifted with some unforgettable moments as a club. We’re excited to join our fans in celebrating our history with various special events throughout the season.”

The Rapids will kick off their 25th-season celebrations on Monday, March 2, with week-long activations at Dairy Block in Downtown Denver leading up to the club’s home opener on March 7. Among the various free activations will be appearances from current and former Rapids players, a retail pop-up with exclusive deals on fan gear, including the first chance to purchase the new ‘Nine Six’ jersey in person, as well as a FIFA Skills Challenge with the Rapids’ eMLS player. The week’s celebrations will also include the club’s annual Season Kickoff Party on Thursday, March 5.

At their second home game of the season on March 21, the Rapids will launch a jersey patch series highlighting the club’s fans and history with the first three patches in the series available that day.

During their Fourth of July match against the New York Red Bulls, the Rapids will officially retire jersey number 25, which was worn by club legend Pablo Mastroeni. The three-time Rapids MVP, club captain and former US men’s national team player was part of the Rapids’ 2010 MLS Cup-winning side and later served as the club’s head coach from 2014 to 2017.

Later in the summer, the Rapids will host a ‘96 Throwback Night on August 1 celebrating the club’s early years in the league.

On August 9, the Rapids will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of their 2010 Championship during the club’s first-ever match against Nashville SC. The Tennessean club is coached by Gary Smith who served as the Rapids’ head coach when they lifted the MLS Cup 10 years ago.
