If you’ve been on social media during the past few weeks, it’s been hard to miss Keegan Rosenberry’s golf skills. With only a ping pong ball, a solo cup and a golf club, Rosenberry is gaining a lot of attention – and rightfully so.
His trick shots have featured wall bounces, floor bounces, shots from impressive range and much more.
Rosenberry has even surprised himself a little bit with these skills.
“I’ve never really messed around inside the house," he said. "I’ve putted on the wood floor before though. I just went out and got ping-pong balls and went out of my way to get some cups, so, yeah, I had some fun with it.”
Golfing, however, is something he has been passionate about for a long time.
“I started playing golf when I was pretty young, probably 10 or 12, when I was in middle school. I definitely played more seriously during high school. Just when I had a lot more time, during summers I went to real courses and actually cared about my score and competing against myself.”
When he’s out on the golf course, he typically tries to keep his score below 80. Rosenberry just tries to compete with himself when he’s on the green, which is good thing for his teammates.
“I dragged Andre Shinyashiki out on the golf course one time. 'Foreign to golf' is an understatement for Andre, he didn’t even know where he was.”
While Rosenberry does have experience, getting the hang of putting a ping pong ball wasn’t as easy as he makes it look.
“I don’t really want to admit how many tries it takes, but I would say it varies for sure. It could take up to a hundred for each shot. I have plenty of time on my hands, so I’m not really worried about the amount of time it takes, I just keep trying until it goes in.”
So, what can we expect next?
“The last one I hit went off two walls, so I thought that was the hardest one I did. That’s when I stopped, I thought I couldn’t compete with that. Depending how long this lockdown goes, yeah I’m going to have to get back into it.”
Rosenberry’s skills have gained attention across MLS. He was featured on the league’s first episode of MLS Idle, a program that highlights players and their hidden talents. On the first episode, Rosenberry won over the judges with his impressive shots.
