COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — The Colorado Rapids announced today their schedule for the 2022 Major League Soccer regular season.
The Burgundy Boys will kick off their 27th MLS campaign on Saturday, Feb. 26, with a trip to Banc of California to take on LAFC at 1:30 p.m. MT. The Rapids will then host Atlanta United FC in their home opener at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park on Saturday, March 5, at 4 p.m. MT.
Colorado will play 34 regular season matches in 2022—17 at home and 17 on the road—through the regular season finale on Decision Day, Sunday, Oct. 9. Two teams will make their first ever visits to Colorado next season: 2022 expansion side Charlotte FC visits on April 23, while 2020 expansion side Nashville SC visits on May 28. Other notable home matches include visits from Rocky Mountain Cup rival Real Salt Lake on April 2, Seattle Sounders FC on May 22 and Austin FC in the annual Fourth of July match. Colorado will travel to 2021 MLS Cup champion New York City FC on June 19 as one of the eight Eastern Conference teams the club will play next season.
With their first-place finish in the Western Conference in the 2021 regular season, the Rapids will also be competing in the 2022 Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League next year and will kick off their campaign in the tournament’s Round of 16 in mid-February; the club’s opponent will be announced later today. It will mark just the third time in their history that the Rapids take part in the annual continental club competition.
