Colorado Rapids announced today that the Club has exercised contract options on eight players and declined options on 10 players; two players are out of contract, while eight players are already under guaranteed contracts for the 2016 season.
Colorado Rapids have picked up the contract options on goalkeepers Clint Irwin and John Berner, defenders Joseph Greenspan and Axel Sjöberg, midfielders Sam Cronin, Jared Watts and Dillon Serna, and striker Dominique Badji.
The eight players under contract for the 2016 season are Marlon Hairston, Marc Burch, Juan Ramírez, Marcelo Sarvas, Dillon Powers, Kevin Doyle, Caleb Calvert and Luis Solignac.
Colorado Rapids have declined options on defenders James Riley, Drew Moor, Sean St. Ledger and Maynor Figueroa, midfielders Nick LaBrocca, Lucas Pittinari, Vicente Sánchez and Carlos Alvarez, as well as strikers Charles Eloundou and Gabriel Torres.
In addition, contracts will expire at the end of the season for Bobby Burling and Michael Harrington.
Carlos Alvarez, Vicente Sánchez and Gabriel Torres are eligible for the MLS Re-Entry Draft while Drew Moor and Sean St. Ledger have been offered new agreements.
“We have had to make some very difficult decisions over our roster but that is all part of the process of change,” said Paul Bravo, VP of Soccer Operations and Technical Director. “We are completely committed to improving on the pitch in 2016 and this is the first stage.
“We are renegotiating with some of these players now but I’d like to thank all those leaving for their service to the club and wish them well for the future. We will now concentrate on developing our roster in order to have a successful 2016.”
