Colorado Rapids' leading scorer the past two seasons, Deshorn Brown, is preparing to spearhead Jamaica's charge for the Caribbean Cup, which begins in Montego Bay later on Tuesday.
Brown, who netted 10 goals in 2014 to go with the 10 he scored in his rookie season, is part of a 23-man squad that is hosting the 18th edition of the Caribbean Cup. The Reggae Boyz begin their bid for a fifth title on Wednesday, when they face Martinique. They are joined in Group B by Antigua & Barbuda and Haiti, winners of the tournament in 2007.
The Rapids' #26 is one of seven players from MLS to be named to the Jamaican roster, under the guidance of head coach Winfried Schaefer. Among the others from MLS are Je-Vaughn Watson (FC Dallas), Darren Mattocks (Vancouver Whitecaps), Andre Blake (Philadelphia Union), Michael Seaton ((DC United), Jermaine Taylor (Houston Dynamo) and Alvas Powell (Portland Timbers). In all, 18 of Jamaica's squad play overseas, including seven from the English leagues.
The biggest challenge to Jamaica's hopes will come from defending champions Cuba, who claimed the cup fore the first time two years ago. They are in Group A, alongside eight-times winners Trinidad & Tobago, French Guiana and Curaçao.
This year's Caribbean Cup runs from November 11-18.
