Liga MX sides Chivas & Morelia to face off on Saturday, July 2

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Monday, April 25, 2016) – Colorado Rapids announced today that Dick’s Sporting Goods Park will host an international friendly between Liga MX sides, Chivas de Guadalajara and Club Morelia on Saturday, July 2 at 8:00 p.m. MT.

One of the most historic and successful clubs in Mexico, Club Deportivo Guadalajara—often simply known as Chivas—has captured 11 first division titles and has raised three Copa México trophies. Additionally, the 110-year-old team is the only club in Mexico to exclusively field Mexican players, a concept that has made Chivas a steady contributor of players to the Mexican National Team. Their current standout players include Omar Bravo, Gullit Peña, Carlos Salcido and Isaac Brizuela.

Club Atlético Monarcas Morelia is a club based in Morelia, Michoacán and plays its home games in Estadio Morelos. Monarcas Morelia was founded on June 4, 1950. After the 1956–57 season, in which they ended up in second place, they were officially promoted into the Primera División to replace Puebla.

In their history, Morelia has won one first division title (2000), one Copa Mexico trophy (2013) and one Supercopa Mexico title (2014). At the international level, Morelia lifted the 2010 SuperLiga trophy by defeating MLS side New England Revolution 2-1 in the final.

Tickets for the match start at $35 and are set to go on sale to the general public on Friday, April 29 at 10:00 a.m. via the Dick’s Sporting Goods Park Box Office, as well as via www.Altitudetickets.com and www.TicketsVIP.net.
