Hairston withdraws from U.S. U-23 camp

Marlon Hairston vs LA Galaxy, May 3

Rapids rookie midfielder Marlon Hairston has been forced to withdraw from the United States Under-23 training camp, due to be held this week in the Bahamas, as the result of  a groin strain suffered prior to the Rapids match on Saturday night.

Hairston pulled up in the warm-up with the complaint, which kept him from participating in the match. While the recovery is not expected to take a large amount of time, he would be unable to participate in most of the U.S. U-23’s activities this week, including a Wednesday scrimmage against the Bahamas national team.

Three Rapids players were considered for the U.S. U-23 camp this week, with Shane O’Neill and Dillon Serna being allowed to instead participate in the first annual Homegrown Game as part of the MLS All-Star festivities in Portland. O’Neill is suffering from a knee sprain, but Serna is expected to play some part in tonight's match, which will be streamed live on MLSsoccer.com and WatchESPN (kick-off 8 p.m MT).
