Open Cup at DSGP

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – The Colorado Rapids could host a Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal match, should the team beat the Atlanta Silverbacks on Tuesday night at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. U.S. Soccer announced on Monday that the winner of the Rapids vs. Silverbacks match will host the winner of the Chicago Fire vs. Columbus Crew meeting on Wednesday night in Chicago. The date of a potential quarterfinal match is still to be determined.

The Rapids began their participation in the 101st edition of the U.S. Open Cup with a 5-2 win over Orlando City of the USL Professional Division (USL-Pro) on Tuesday, June 17, and will continue this Tuesday against Atlanta, of the second-tier North American Soccer League (NASL). Tickets are available for tomorrow night’s match, which kicks off at 7 p.m., by calling 303-825-GOAL or by clicking here.

The west side of Dick’s Sporting Goods Park will be open for Tuesday’s match, with entrance to the stadium through Gate G and through Eighteen76. General admission seating in Sections 128/129 is available for $20 for adults and $15 for children, and in Sections 126/127 and 130/131 for $15 adults/$10 children. Rapids Season Ticket Holders, partial plan holders, and groups of 10 or more will also receive a discount of up to 50% on all tickets.

The Atlanta Silverbacks reached the fifth round by virtue of a come-from-behind, 2-1 home victory over Real Salt Lake on Saturday, June 14 in their previous match. Atlanta is the former club of current Rapids players Chris Klute and Joe Nasco, who were teammates at the Silverbacks in 2012. The Silverbacks finished the Spring Season in eighth place in the 10-team NASL with a 3-1-5 (W-L-T) record.

Details for the quarterfinal matchup, including a potential date, will be released in the near future.
