Rapids would host Atlanta Silverbacks with win against Orlando City

Open Cup at DSGP

A Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup meeting between the Colorado Rapids and Real Salt Lake will not happen this year after the Utah team were knocked out at the fourth round stage on Saturday, by Atlanta Silverbacks of the NASL. The Silverbacks advanced with a 2-1 win.

With the victory, Atlanta moves on to the fifth round and will face the winner of the Colorado Rapids and Orlando City SC, who meet each other on Tuesday at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, kick-off 7 p.m. MT.

Should the Rapids advance, they would host the fixture, which would be a first against the Silverbacks in the U.S. Open Cup. Rapids defender Chris Klute and goalkeeper Joe Nasco would have the chance to face their former team.

Klute was acquired by the Rapids on a one-year loan from the Silverbacks in September of 2012, and then permanently signed by Colorado in July 2013. Nasco was Klute’s teammate in 2012, when they helped the team to a league title. Nasco was also named to the NASL Best XI for that year.

The Rapids are currently on a hiatus in the MLS schedule as the World Cup group stage takes place, and will return to regular-season action on June 28, hosting Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Tickets to Tuesday's match against Orlando City are available by calling 303-825-GOAL or clicking here.
