Tale of the Tape | Luis Gil vs. Albert Rusnák | August 25, 2017

2017.08.25 Tale of the Tape

A new kid on the block versus the one-time player at Real Salt Lake could be intriguing viewing this weekend, as the Colorado Rapids head to Rio Tinto Stadium in game two of the Rocky Mountain Cup series with RSL (Altitude 8:00 p.m. MT).
Luis Gil started his professional career in Utah, playing six seasons there before moving to Mexican club Queretaro at the end of 2015. After a year in Liga MX, Gil resumed his time in MLS at Orlando City SC at the beginning of 2017, before switching to the Rapids earlier this month.

Playing his last game before heading off on international duty with Slovakia, Rusnák arrived as a Young DP to replace Javier Morales. Already he has proven his worth, bagging six goals and tallying 10 assists in 23 appearances. Gil, meanwhile, made his first start - and second appearance - for the Rapids in their 1-0 loss at Portland Timbers on Wednesday night.

A technically gifted midfielder, during his time at RSL, Gil primarily played as the left-sided shuttler in Kreis' preferred 4-4-2 diamond formation, though he can also play on the right side or point of the diamond.

What they say …

A dynamic player on and off the ball, he can hurt opponents with his passing. He turns up in a lot of different places on the field and another of his strengths is his timing with late runs into the box.
