Ten things to know ahead of Houston Dynamo vs. Colorado Rapids

Houston US Open Cup

1. This will be the first meeting between Houston Dynamo and Colorado Rapids in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

2. The Dynamo will be a 19th different opponent in this competition.

3. The sides met in the league at BBVA Compass Stadium back in March, with the Rapids registering their third successive 0-0 draw.

4. If the Rapids progress, then they would go to the winners of Sporting KC vs. FC Dallas (July 1) for a quarterfinal matchup on July 21 or 22.

5. The Rapids were beaten finalists in the 1999 edition of this competition, losing out to Rochester Raging Rhinos of the A-League (a forerunner to USL) 2-0. Houston have twice reached the semifinals, in 2006 and 2009.

6. Houston came through their fourth round tie, defeating Austin Aztex 2-0. The Rapids overcame Colorado Springs Switchbacks 4-1 in the previous round. (FULL DRAW).

7. The Rapids will be playing at BBVA Compass Stadium - which opened in 2012 - for only the third time. Both previous visits have ended in draws (1-1 in 2013 and 0-0 in 2015).

8. Not since April 19, 2009 have the Rapids lost to Houston Dynamo. They are unbeaten in the last nine meetings.

9. During that stretch, the Rapids have won five, drawn four. They have also shutout Houston in six of the nine contests.

10. The last Rapids' win in Houston came at Robertson Stadium on May 4, 2011, courtesy of a late goal from Scott Palguta.
