Rapids Weekly Team Update

COMMERCE CITY CO (2/5/08) -Many times the thoughts of training camp for Colorado sports teams brings to mind images of sweltering heat as the Broncos run through drills at Dove Valley or the warmth of the Arizona sunshine as the Rockies break out their bats but for the last two weeks of Rapids preseason training the images have been much different.

While the intensity of each practice is the same the Rapids have had to deal with everything from high winds to bitter temperatures and mounds of snow to get their preseason work in. The fields crew at Dick’s SportingGoodsPark has done a tremendous job keeping the turf fields in top condition as the team works through their training exercises outdoors at the park.

This time next week Rapids players and coaches will hopefully see some more sunshine of their own. The team recently announced their full preseason schedule which includes three trips: to Florida Mississippi and England. This is currently the last full week of training at DSG Park before the club leaves for Florida.
With 28 days of planned training outside of Colorado in the coming weeks be sure to check in with for continued updates and player blogs from the road!
Preseason: Colorado Rapids vs. Real Salt Lake

Fort Lauderdale Florida
Ugo Ihemelu (hip) and Conor Casey (ACL) continued their rehab this week with the Rapids training staff following their respective surgeries this winter.
No other injuries to report.
Today's quotes come from Head Coach Fernando Clavijo.
On the first two weeks of preseason training:
"I think even with the weather situation I thought everything went very well. We were able to really focus on some of the new guys and younger players and get a good look at them and really take advantage of the incredible facilities we have here at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park to get a good foundation and start to our preseason training."
On looking forward to the team’s upcoming preseason trips:
"As a coach I am looking forward to the games and seeing our players in game situations. Unfortunately due to the weather we have not been able to have those situations here in Colorado yet. These trips will give us an opportunity to work some of these new players into the lineup so we are very excited about that."
