Power Rankings Week 14: One national outlet has the Rapids up to 5th overall

Each week we will take a look at where the Colorado Rapids stand in the weekly Power Rankings on national soccer media websites SI.com, MLSsoccer.com, SoccerByIves and ESPNFC.com.

In week 14, the Rapids earned a 2-2 draw at home against FC Dallas, in a wild match that saw all four goals scored in a ten minute stretch. The draw holds the team in 5th place in the Western Conference and 9th in the overall in MLS standings.

Here’s how that result affected the team's standings in each of the four Power Rankings:

MLSSoccer.com holds the Rapids at 8 (no change from last week).

It's fantastic, no doubt, for Rapids fans to see their team get a point even when Clint Irwin doesn't play like a god. And honestly, getting a point – even at home – against FC Dallas is probably a good result at the moment.

Sports Illustrated holds the Rapids at 9 (no change from last week).

The Rapids could not make good on Atiba Harris' brace, with both of his goals giving the club a momentary one-goal leads over FC Dallas. Even so, a point against the league-leading side is a valuable takeaway from a week in which the club also received word that the foot injury that Martin Rivero suffered was not a recurrence of his broken foot and was not so serious, after all.

Soccer by Ives ranks the Rapids at 7  (no rankings last week).

Oscar Pareja has to like the way his team is playing, but won’t mind the bye as he draws closer to having a close to full-strength side. Jaime Castrillon is close to returning, and Shane O’Neill will be back from the Toulon Tournament after the break.

And, ESPN FC ranks the Rapids at 5 (up from 7 last week).

Atiba Harris, the man with two of the sharpest elbows in MLS, found his goal-scoring touch against Dallas, tallying twice, but the game still ended in a 2-2 draw. The Rapids extended their unbeaten streak to six games.

The draw was good enough to move the Rapids up 2 spots in ESPN FC’s rankings and hold steady in the rest. What do you think? Should the Rapids have gained more ground in the Week 14 Power Rankings? Sound off below.
