Power Rankings Week 27: Stumble in KC drops Colorado in the rankings

Each week we will take a look at where the Colorado Rapids stand in the weekly Power Rankings on national soccer media websites.

The Colorado Rapids hit the road for a week 27 matchup against Sporting KC. The Rapids battled hard but ultimately fell to Sporting 2-1 with the lone goal from Edson Buddle. After the loss, the team is now tied for 4th place in the Western Conference and tied for 7th in the overall in MLS standings.

Here’s how the week affected the team's standings in national MLS Power Rankings:

MLSSoccer.com #4 (#3)

Give them credit: They didn't give up that franchise-best nine-game unbeaten run easily. The schedule only gets tougher, though, and it's time for Gabriel Torres to be a match-winner.

Teams ranked above: Real Salt Lake, LA Galaxy, Sporting KC.

Bleacher Report #8 (#5)

Colorado were handed a chance to assert themselves amongst the hierarchy of MLS on Saturday, but they failed to do just that against Sporting. The Rapids did put up a valiant effort, but they were forced to suffer a loss against one of the league's best on the road.

Teams ranked above: Real Salt Lake, LA Galaxy, Sporting KC, Portland Timbers, NY Red Bulls, Montreal Impact, Seattle Sounders.

Soccer America #4 (#1)

The rested Rapids couldn’t contain a desperate SKC after Edson Buddle’s deflected shot had tied the game in the 77th minute. The 2-1 loss snapped Colorado’s nine-game unbeaten streak.

Teams ranked above: Real Salt Lake, LA Galaxy, Montreal Impact.

Pro Soccer Talk #4 (#4)

Oscar Pareja’s young team was going for 10 in a row without a loss but was undone by Kansas City’s pressure in a 2-1 loss in the heartland.

Teams ranked above: Real Salt Lake, LA Galaxy, Sporting KC.

ESPN FC #8 (#6)

The Rapids' nine-game unbeaten streak ended at the hands of Sporting Kansas City. Worse, Colorado finds itself falling back to the pack in the race for the last two playoff spots, an uncomfortable position given that it has played more games.

Teams ranked above: LA Galaxy, Real Salt Lake, Seattle Sounders, Montreal Impact, Sporting KC, NY Red Bulls, Portland Timbers.

What do you think of the rankings? How do you think the team will bounce back against the Galaxy on Saturday?
