The Colorado Rapids U23s conceded in the final moments on Saturday as the PDL Mountain Division leaders FC Tucson grabbed a point in a 2-2 draw at Kino North Stadium.
FC Tucson opened the scoring in the 41st minute, as Kevin Partida countered off a miss-hit goal kick from Rapids’ Connor Gavigan. Minutes later, visiting striker Andre Shiniyashiki scored the equalizer, chasing down a ball and beating the Tucson defense.
After the break, a similar pattern emerged, with both sides creating an equal amount of opportunities. Josh Goss gave the Rapids the lead in the 75th minute, as he buried the ball in the back of the net after receiving a perfect lay-off from Jaret Townsend.
FC Tucson picked up momentum as they searched for a late equalized. In the 85th minute Moshe Perez evened the score with a left-footed shot from the edge of the box, securing a point for the home side.
Rapids U23s finish the campaign third in the PDL Mountain Division with a 5-4-5 record overall. Townsend, Goss, and Shinyashiki were the leading scorers, each tallying four goals. Townsend, Goss, and Noah Bushey tied for the team lead in assists with three each.
