Community Team of the Week | Week 2

team of the week_community

Each week, we're highlighting people in our community who are making a difference. From medical professionals, to grocery store employees, to people sewing handmade masks, we want to honor those who are supporting the people in Colorado!

Our Week 2 Community Team of the Week is made up of four doctors who are currently helping keep the community safe: Dr. Jason Dragoo, Dr. Jack Spittler, Dr. Brad Changstrom and Dr. Alex Ebinger.

ColoradoRapids.com: What’s one piece of advice you’d like to give to Rapids fans right now?

Dr. Spittler: Make sure you continue to safely exercise - either indoors or outdoors - with appropriate social distancing. One great form of exercise to consider, even if you haven't tried it before, is yoga. Not only can it help with strength and flexibility, but it can also improve your mental health through relaxation and meditation. Many companies (i.e. CorePower Yoga in Denver) are offering free online classes right now. You should really consider checking out yoga!

ColoradoRapids.com: What’s one silver lining you’ve found during this time?

Dr. Spittler: Sometimes the best way to get creative is when you are forced to be. Fortunately, we have come together quickly as a medical community to figure innovative and safe ways to take care of our patients. One example is the rapid development and expansion of "Telehealth" or "virtual visits" over secure computer and smartphone platforms. This helps people still get the care they need for medical issues but can keep them from getting exposed to COVID infection at a medical facility or being out in the community. Everyone has been so collaborative over the past few weeks on issues like these and the exchange of helpful information and commitment to saving lives is truly amazing!

Dr. Changstrom: Be patient and keep up the good work. Sports will be back soon, and we can all celebrate when that happens!

ColoradoRapids.com: What’s one silver lining you’ve found during this time?

Dr. Changstrom: I've been able to spend more time with my wife and son, Dr. Alex Ebinger, MD.

ColoradoRapids.com: What’s one piece of advice you’d like to give to Rapids fans right now?

Dr. Ebinger: From a healthcare standpoint, staying home and washing your hands will help decrease risk of COVID spread and reduce the risk of overwhelming our healthcare systems. This is important for not only you but for your family and neighbors, and particularly those with underlying health issues. From a personal standpoint, this is a great opportunity to catch up with those who you haven't spoken with in awhile. It's also a great time to read books you haven't read or bite off new projects such as learning another language. Lastly, don't let quarantine ruin your fitness. There are numerous excellent home workouts available, and this is a fantastic opportunity to make stretching or yoga a part of your regular routine.

ColoradoRapids.com: What’s one silver lining you’ve found during this time?

Dr. Ebinger: The amount of outreach has been heartwarming. It's inspiring to see the outpouring of support from food donations to mask making to words of encouragement. We are all in this together, and the more we can do as a cohesive team, while still physically being apart, to overcome the downsides of this pandemic will help propel us forward as a community. Keep howling!
