Charlotte Independence

A week after winning their first game of the new season, the Rapids’ USL affiliate Charlotte Independence were brought back down to Earth with big bump on Saturday after they were soundly beaten 4-0 at Rochester Rhinos.

After five games, the Independence sit at 1-2-2, and have slipped to the bottom of the Eastern Conference, though they are just three points off the playoff places at this very early stage.

This is the Independence’s second loss of the season by two goals or more. In all of 2016, the Independence did not lose any game by more than one goal. The Independence have been shut out in both of their losses this season.

On-loan from the Rapids, defender Dennis Castillo played the 90 minutes at left-back, with Academy goalkeeper Kainoa Likewise an unused substitute.

The Independence will next play the defending USL Champions, New York Red Bull II at Eagle Field on the campus of Winthrop University. Kickoff is scheduled for Thursday, May 11 at 7:00 p.m. ET.

Colorado Springs Switchbacks

Homegrown midfielder Ricardo Perez was loaned to USL side Colorado Springs Switchbacks on Saturday, April 29.

He played his first match with the Switchbacks that evening and netted an equalizer in the 40th minute after his shot deflected into the top right corner. Despite his efforts the Switchbacks fell to Sounders FC 2 by three goals to two.

The 1-3-3 Switchbacks will return to Weidner Field on Friday, May 5 at 7:00 p.m. for a rematch against Tulsa Roughnecks FC.
