Who to Cheer For in Week 22 to Increase the Rapids’ Playoff Hopes

With the announcement that the 2020 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs will be decided based on points per game, the Rapids now find themselves in the No. 8 seed with three games to go. This weekend, they have the potential to clinch a playoff spot, but they don’t yet control their own fate. Here’s who and what you need to cheer for this weekend in order for the Rapids to book their ticket into the postseason.

1. Colorado to get three points in the final regular season home match vs Seattle

This one is a bit obvious – but the Rapids need to take care of business on their home turf this weekend. If Colorado can get three points against Seattle, the team’s points per game will increase to 1.375, which may be enough to clinch a playoff berth, if the other matches this weekend go their way.

2. Portland tops (or ties) Vancouver

Vancouver currently sits in the No. 9 spot in the playoff rankings, just below the line, so a loss from them would no doubt be helpful for Colorado. A tie between Vancouver and Portland would also potentially do the trick.

3. A tie between the Galaxy and Real Salt Lake

Rapids fans, I know it’s hard to do anything other than hope for losses from our Rocky Mountain Cup rivals, but a tie would actually be the most beneficial scenario. While the Galaxy are currently in last in the West, they still technically have a chance to make the playoffs if they get a victory against Salt Lake. If all three of these results go Colorado’s way, the Rapids will have their ticket to the playoffs secured.
