Welcome back to Dick's Sporting Goods Park, and to nicer weather than the past couple games here! I want to thank you for the tremendous support you gave us at our Home Opener earlier this month, and to the United States Men's National Team for their 1-0 victory over Costa Rica in a blizzard! The whole country took notice and was truly impressed with the atmosphere here at the stadium, and you made a statement that Denver is a soccer city through and through.
While the weather has improved, today's game presents a different kind of challenge for Oscar Pareja and the players. As you've read here on ColoradoRapids.com, we've had many players suffer both short and long term injuries, and while some are close to a return, we are short-handed these days. However, we're excited to see some of our young talent take center stage, with first round SuperDraft picks Deshorn Brown and Dillon Powers continuing to find their way into the starting lineup. Without some of the defenders that started the first four games, Chris Klute and Homegrown Player Shane O'Neill of Boulder may also get time.
We're also excited that offseason acquisition Edson Buddle, a U.S. National Team veteran and one of MLS' all-time top scorers, has been training fully the last couple weeks and could make his Rapids debut soon. Even with absences today, our players are fully committed and we're eager to take the field and get a victory.
Thanks again for supporting the lads today, and don't forget to pick up your Westerra Credit Union season schedule and car magnet on your way out of the stadium today!
Come on you Rapids!
