Matchday Welcome: Rapids host Seattle Sounders FC

Rapids Fans:

With the weather getting chillier, and fall truly arriving here in Colorado, it’s the most exciting part of the season for all of us who cheer for the Rapids. We have just four games left in the regular season, and tonight’s match against the Sounders is vital as we push for a spot in the playoffs. We’re excited to be playing such an important game in front of a packed house full of fans supporting the boys in burgundy, all for a national audience on television. Thank you for coming out tonight!

If you’re reading this early on Saturday, I want to encourage you to make it out for another match that will be held at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park today, and that is our Special Olympics Rapids team, which plays against their counterparts from Seattle at 4 p.m. inside the stadium. We are proud to have these athletes in our club, and encourage everyone to come watch their game, free of charge.

Heading into the match against the Sounders, you’ll notice that our uniforms look different tonight, which is because of the addition of to the front of our jerseys. Our hope is to help the fundraising efforts for those in need throughout Colorado that were affected by the devastating flooding by bringing awareness to this website, which provides information on where and how to donate funds or volunteer. Kroenke Sports Charities donated $50,000 to the cause, and we are hopeful to help raise even more tonight.

In addition, you may also see the color pink visible throughout the stadium and even on the field. As part of a league-wide initiative, we are also bringing awareness to the fight against breast cancer by incorporating the color pink throughout tonight’s gameday experience. From accents on uniforms and a special match ball, to signage around the stadium, you’ll see the color pink.

We would also like to welcome our partners from the Global Down Syndrome Foundation out to the match, who we’re working with for our Dare to Play Soccer Clinics. Participants will walk onto the field with both teams’ starters before the match, and have a game of their own at halftime. Finally, to support other youth soccer programs for underserved children in the area, be sure to purchase a 50/50 Raffle ticket, with proceeds benefitting the charitable programs provided by the Colorado Rapids Youth Soccer Club. We’ll draw the winner at halftime!

Tonight’s match is exciting and important for this club, and your attendance here is what makes it so special. We’re all looking for a strong finish to the regular season and a spot in the playoffs, so thank you again for coming out and joining us!

Come on you Rapids!
