Rapids sign defender Ben Newnam

The Colorado Rapids announced that the club has signed 23-year-old defender Ben Newnam, who has been with the club since preseason. Per league and club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Ben is a great young player who can feature in multiple positions for us. He is already a consummate professional at a very young age," Rapids Head Coach Pablo Mastroeni said. “He has a great mentality which means he pushes himself and his team-mates in a positive way. We look forward to him making a significant contribution this season.”

“Ben performed very well over the course of the pre-season and is a solid addition to our roster depth," added Paul Bravo, VP of Soccer Operations and Technical Director.  "We look forward to watching him continue to develop and improve within our group over the coming months.”

Newnam joins the Rapids after spending the 2013-14 seasons with then USL Pro side Charlotte Eagles where he appeared in 54 matches, tallying four goals.

The North Carolina native played all four years at Wake Forest University, making 74 appearances for the Demon Deacons, and he finished his collegiate career with four goals and eight assists.
