For the Colorado Rapids, game 10 of the 2017 season - against Chicago Fire - will be their first midweek match-up of the year (Altitude TV, 6:30 p.m. MT).
Here we would look at how the club has fared down the years in games played midweek (Monday-Thursday).
In all, the Rapids have been involved in 128 midweek regular season games, and enjoy a 53-51-24 record (ties were not permitted before 2000 in MLS).
Wednesday is far and away the most popular day for a midweek contest, with 95 games played. This is compared to only four played on a Monday, nine on a Tuesday and 21 on a Thursday.
The Rapids failed to win any of their four midweek matches in 2014 (0-2-2), but the team’s record has improved of late. Since losing 2-0 at Vancouver Whitecaps FC on September 9, 2015, they have gone 4-0-2, which includes three wins over Sporting Kansas City.
For the record, the Rapids’ record for Wednesday games is 39-38-18.
Colorado and Chicago have met 11 times in midweek matches, with the Rapids 5-2-4, though just one of those wins has been in the Windy City. That solitary midweek road success came on May 3, 2000, with goals from Junior Agogo and Jorge Dely Valdes in a 2-1 win at Soldier Field.
