ExtraTime Radio brings you an exclusive interview with Colorado Rapids Executive Vice President and General Manager Pádraig Smith, as he chats about the latest acquisitions of Lalas Abubakar and Auston Trusty.
When asked about the duo, Smith comments, “Auston and Lalas compliment each other very well. I think they will be a great additions to a very young, athletic and talented backline. When you look at them, Kortne Ford, Keegan Rosenberry,Sam Vines, it’s a very athletic group. We are quite excited about it.”
In addition, Smith discussed the club's offseason plans and his recent trip to Argentina scouting young, talented attacking players.
"It's an interesting market down there," Smith said. "From our perspective, we have been open about building out for the 2020 season when we freed up two [Designated Player] spots. We want to continue to add to our attacking core. I think, as a group, we feel like an attacking midfielder is something we are missing and something that we need to bring in. Ultimately, we would like a winger as well. We found great success last year with the attacking play coming from the winger position - Sam Nicholson, Jonathan Lewis, Andre Shinyashiki - but we want a team that plays with speed, urgency and boldness. There are players all around the world, not just in Argentina, that will fit that profile and that is the most important thing for us."
