Return to Toronto for Robin Fraser...

There’s an old cliché in sports that every game is the same even when you’re facing your former side. Will Robin Fraser feel the same way? That’s to be determined, but a return to BMO Field should bring back some fond memories for the new man in charge.

Two trips to the MLS Cup final, one MLS Cup championship, one Supporters’ Shield and three Canadian Championships, not a bad run in four and half seasons eh?

The success that Fraser achieved as an assistant coach with the Reds is something that he is sure to be proud of, but there’s a new focus now. The Burgundy Boys have been nothing short of impressive since he was handed the keys on August 25. Three wins, six goals scored and only one goal conceded makes for a close-to-perfect start for this Colorado side.

If they want to keep that streak alive, they’re going to have to fight off a Toronto FC team that is in the thick of the playoff race. Currently sitting in 4th, Toronto is in a good spot to clinch a spot after missing the postseason last season, but will they get that pivotal home playoff game? That is the question. The Rapids will be more than prepared as they look to keep their run of form alive and while Robin Fraser will have good things to say of his time there, I’m sure he wouldn’t mind playing the role of spoiler this weekend.

Star strikers return…

The international FIFA break is done. Kei Kamara and Diego Rubio have served their respective suspensions so the Rapids will be back to close to having a full side available. Kortne Ford and Deklan Wynne will continue to be out due to injury, we’ll have to wait and see on Jonathan Lewis and Tim Howardwhile Jack Pricewill be serving a one-game suspension due to yellow card accumulation.

Kamara (Sierra Leone) and Rubio (Chile) are both back after successful stints with their national teams which saw both of them feature in both of their country’s games as well as Kamara finding the back of the net against Liberia. Both will be eager to continue the Rapids winning ways, but they each have some personal milestones on the near horizon. Kei is only two goals away from becoming the fifth player in MLS history to reach the 125 career goals milestone. Diego on the other hand is just one goal shy from his first 10-goal season in MLS. Both have a good shot at reaching those milestones before season’s end, but will they happen on Sunday? We’ll find out at 3PM.
