Rapids bowling for charity with musicians

Colorado Rapids players will roll for charity in this Saturday’s Bowling Ball 3, a charity bowling tournament organized by Denver band Flobots to raise money for music empowerment programs for Colorado youth. The event, which runs from 6:00 p.m. to midnight this Saturday, October 8 at Lucky Strike Belmar, will feature a celebrity team of Rapids players Pablo Mastroeni, Kosuke Kimura, Marvell Wynne, Scott Palguta, Mike Holody, Quincy Amarikwa, Steven Emory, and Chris Sharpe.

The winners of the charity tournament will be hosted in a suite for the Colorado Rapids regular season home finale on October 14 against Real Salt Lake, and will be recognized on the field prior to the match with the Flobots and other celebrity participants from the bowling event. A Rapids team including Mastroeni and Holody placed second during the inaugural event in 2009.

The Rapids players will attend the VIP-Pre Party on October 7 with sponsors and other celebrity guests, which include Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper and other Denver-based bands OneRepublic and DeVotchKa, to meet the people on the front lines of, including the founders and members of the Flobots.

The tournament’s charity is, which works in collaboration with many local Denver organizations to provide hands-on learning experiences to students of middle, high school, and university students throughout Denver, allowing them to examine cultural identities, share stories, and improve literacy skills.
