Mastroeni drives for charity at Golf Classic

Third annual Charity Classic raises over $20,000

Commerce City, Colo. (September 12, 2012) - The Colorado Rapids held its third annual Charity Classic golf tournament on Monday, bringing players, coaches and staff out to the links to play with community leaders, sponsors, and fans. The event, held at The Club at Pradera in Parker, was a resounding success, raising more than $20,000 for Kroenke Sports Charities.

A total of 29 foursomes hit the course on Monday afternoon in a scramble-style tournament, competing for prizes donated by local businesses. At the end of the day, three teams were tied with 58 points and through a drawing of scorecards, the Beecher Carlson team, featuring Rapids President Tim Hinchey, were named champions. The runners up were the Maximized Living team with defender Hunter Freeman, and the Entercom Denver foursome. Other honors went out to the participants, including prizes for Closest to the Pin, which was won by Hinchey for the men, and Longest Drive that was dominated by midfielder Jeff Larentowicz (men, 365 yards).

While the players competed and had fun on a beautiful day in Parker, the event was all about charity, and a total of more than $20,000 was raised for Kroenke Sports Charities.  KSC supports underserved children and families in Colorado through educational and recreational programs, as well as appearances and sports clinics by players and coaches, donations of autographed merchandise and tickets.

The success of the event came down to the generous support, donations and participation from sponsors, including Dick’s Sporting Goods, HealthONE, Heineken USA, Coors Light, All-Copy, Maximized Living, Beecher Carlson, Denver Marriott City Center, Renaissance, Doubletree, Vitamin Water, Famous Daves, Dasani, Tickleberry Desserts, Rocky Mountain Popcorn, Red Lion, Dixon Golf, Entercom Denver, Lincoln Financial Media, Clear Channel, CFM Company, Jay’s Valet Parking, Luxury Transportation & Pedicab Services, Lamar Outdoor Advertising, Vermont Hard Cider and Visit Denver.
