Edson Buddle at Seattle Sounders

Five things to note ahead of #SEAvCOL

'Tis the season

... to break all of the curses. Earlier this month, the Rapids earned their first win at BMO Field thanks to Edson Buddle's 99th career goal. Can they finally net three points at CenturyLink Field?

Playing on turf

The team was without veterans Edson Buddle and Vicente Sánchez on a trip to Vancouver but doesn't seem that'll be the case this week.

As we learned from his Twitter feed, Buddle is with the team. Richard Fleming makes the point that Buddle is not afraid of turf. And neither is Pablo Mastroeni.

Guess that starting XI

Six games into the 2014 season and Pablo Mastroeni has not trotted out the same starting XI once. Only three players have started in all six matches thus far: Drew Moor, Dillon Powers and Shane O'Neill. Of those three, Moor is the only player to start in the same spot in the lineup each week. How's that for variety?

Scoring woes?

The Rapids have been criticized for a lack of scoring. Through six matches, Colorado has found the net eight times, good for a very mediocre middle of the league.

While the Rapids are finding ways to earn results at the moment, the attack will have to be much more potent against a team like Seattle with so much firepower. But Colorado is 3-1-2 after opening 2014 with one of the tougher schedules in MLS. So is this just nitpicking?

Cormac McCarthy sums up my thoughts quite nicely in the following quote: "If there ain't nothin to be done about it it aint even a problem. It's just a aggravation." An aggravation that the coaching staff has acknowledged and is working to eradicate.

Big test for defense

Seattle's offense is a nightmare on paper. But they'll be facing a Rapids defense that is just as frightening. This one will be fun to watch, folks. Find your local watch party and be sure to join the conversation on Twitter using #SEAvCOL.
