Croatia 2-1 England (RECAP)

Headline of the Day | Cinderella run continues as Croatia reaches first-ever World Cup final

Croatia's 2-1 come-from-behind win stunned England on Wednesday in the World Cup semifinals. The Croatians needed 30 minutes of nail-biting extra time to ensure they'd have a chance to play for the 2018 FIFA World Cup trophy for the first time.

The game started well for England. Less than five minutes were on the clock when Kieran Trippier curled a stunning free-kick past Danijel Subasic. The goal quickly catapulted the Three Lions into a lead they'd hold into the second half. In the second frame, Ivan Perisic's beautiful finish equalized for Croatia and fueled them with hope.

Mario Mandzukic carved his name into World Cup history when ghosted behind the English defense to hammer home a strike in the 109th minute. Needless to say, he also became an instant legend to all Croatians in that moment.

"Nobody wanted to give in when I was preparing the first eleven, nobody wanted to say I was not ready in extra time, no one wanted to be subbed and this shows character and what makes me proud. Nobody gave up," Croatia's head coach Zlatko Dalić said postgame.

Croatia will face France Sunday for the World Cup Final, and England will face Belgium to determine the third and fourth place finishers on Saturday.
