The game marked the first time the Rapids have earned a point when conceding the first goal of the game. Until today Colorado was 0-8-0 when giving up the lead.

Conor Casey equalized for the Rapids in the 70th minute when he headed a Terry Cooke cross into the bottom corner of Joe Cannon’s net. Today’s game was the third in a row for the Denver local with either a goal or an assist.

The Rapids had the first scoring opportunity of the match in the 12th minute when Facundo Erpen played a through ball to Casey. Casey outran Eric Denton to the ball but his shot went wide of the goal.

Bouna Coundoul made his first save of the game as he easily tipped a 20-yard shot from James Riley over the crossbar in the 26th minute.

Ryan Johnson took advantage of a Pablo Mastroeni slip in the 36th minute to get a shot off that just nicked the outside of the post.

Christian Gomez tested Cannon from outside the penalty area in the 40th minute but the former Rapids keeper was up to the challenge.

In first half added time Coundoul took a ball off the foot of Ivan Guerrero after Johnson found him alone toward the far post.

Johnson put San Jose in the lead in the 62nd minute when he headed in a free kick from Ramiro Corrales.

Coundoul made a diving save to deny Ronnie O’Brien on a free kick in the 67th minute.

Omar Cummings made a 40-yard run in the 80th minute as he beat two San Jose defenders before Nick Garcia knocked his shot out for a corner.

Casey had an opportunity to put in the game winner in second half stoppage time when he redirected a Clark cross that Cannon trapped between his legs.

Colorado will finish their two game road trip in Texas next weekend as they take on FC Dallas in a Western Conference match on July 19 at 6:30 p.m. MT. The game will be broadcast live on altitude in the Rocky Mountain Region.
