Colorado Rapids Academy quartet called in for U.S. National Team camps

Four Rapids Academy players have been called into U.S. National Team camps this month.

Defender Samuel Vines will join the U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team for an upcoming tournament in Spain, while fellow teammate Matthew Hundley has been called into the Under-17 Men's National Team camp in preparation for the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Vines, known for his powerful left foot and attacking presence, was an unquestionable starter for the Rapids U-18 side this past season. His vision on the field and passing skills earned him a spot on the U-17/U-18 Central Conference Best XI, and caught the attention of U-18's MNT Head Coach Omid Namazi. He will join the team in Marbella, Spain from October 1-10 as the squad participates in a U-18 tournament.

After attending a nine-day training camp with the U-17 National Team in Beaverton, Oregon earlier this month, Matthew Hundley will meet up with the squad again in September. This time in Bradenton, Florida on September 5 for the U-17 MNT World Cup preparation camp. If selected for the FIFA World Cup roster, he will have the opportunity to fly to Dubai, UAE for one final preparation camp from September 24 to October 1.

The Stars and Stripes will kick off against tournament host India in New Delhi on opening night of the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup on October 6, before facing two-time U-17 World Cup champions Ghana three days later. They will conclude their group stage campaign against Colombia in Navi Mumbai on October 12.

Elsewhere in the Academy, but also in Bradenton, Florida, Sebastian Anderson was called up to the U.S. U-15 Boys' National Team for their 3-0 victory against Panama on August 17. He was subbed into the match in the 53rd minute, and was on the pitch as the team advanced to their first-ever CONCACAF Championship final. The U-15 BNT later fell to a dominant Mexican side 2-0 in the championship match on August 19.

Cesar Carbajal represented the Rapids earlier this month when he was called into the U.S. Under-14 Boys' National Team's second camp of 2017 in Portland, Oregon. During the camp, the U-14 BNT played an intrasquad match, as well as a pair of friendlies against Portland Timbers and Seattle Sounders Development Academy teams.
