We've looked through the archives from the 2007 MLS season and selected our picks for the top 10 Rapids goals of the year.
Here they are in chronological order:
#1) April 7 Rapids vs. United: Herculez Gets One for the Record Books
Herculez Gomez went down in the history books alongside Rapids legends Marcelo Balboa (Mile High Stadium) and Chris Henderson (Invesco Field) as the only Rapids players to ever score an inaugural goal in a home Rapids stadium. Gomez recorded his historic strike in front of dignitaries from around the world and a nationwide audience watching on ABC on the grand opening day of Dick's Sporting Goods Park. WATCH THE GOAL VIDEO
#2) April 15 Rapids vs. Chicag Endline-to-Endline (and Beyond)
Herculez lived up to his name with this fantastic strike against Chicago his second of the year. Bouna Coundoul distributes to Niko Hernandez who springs Gomez who hits this bomb of a goal and jumps into the Front Range section to celebrate with the Rapids' supporters. This great individual effort made the top 10 finalists for MLS Goal of the Year. As commentator Marc Stout exclaims "That was SPECTACULAR!" WATCH THE GOAL VIDEO
#3) April 22 Rapids at Dallas: Jovan Asks "Want Dip With That Chip"?
On the road at Pizza Hut Park Kirovski perfectly corrals a 60-yard pass and expertly chips it over the helpless FC Dallas goalkeeper for the equalizer. Goooooooooooool! WATCH THE GOAL VIDEO
#4) April 30 Rapids at Salt Lake: Brown Fakes Salt Lake
Roberto Brown capitalizes on a mistiming mistake by Real's defense to weave his way into the box dribble around two Salt Lake defenders and fire home his second goal of the year in a great individual effort. WATCH THE GOAL VIDEO
#5) May 13: Rapids at Red Bulls: Niko Plays 'El Matador'
Niko Hernandez picked a doozy for his only goal of the year. A streaking Niko expertly pokes a pass from Herculez Gomez past the outstretched arms of the Red Bulls 'keeper to give the Rapids the match-winner and make Colorado become the first team to defeat New York in 2007. #6) Aug. 16 Rapids vs. Revolution: Omar Dusts the Revs
Omar Cummings seals the 3-0 humiliation of MLS Cup finalists New England Revolution with his first strike ever for the Rapids. Omar uses his blazing speed to burn the Revs' defense and latch onto a 50-yard pass from Colin Clark to one-time a fantastic blast past New England 'keeper Matt Reis and guarantee a Colorado win in the 76th minute. #7) Aug. 26 Rapids vs. Galaxy: Conor Casey Chumps Cannon
Conor Casey jukes the pants off Galaxy goalkeeper Joe Cannon the first of three goals on the night in the Rapids' trouncing of Los Angeles. Casey then slots it confidently home to send the sold-out standing room-only Rapids crowd into hysterics. WATCH THE GOAL VIDEO
#8) Aug. 26 Rapids vs. Galaxy: Sweet Redemption for Clark
This one makes the list not because of its overall beauty but instead because it's one of the most deserved goals of the year. Local Colorado product Colin Clark finally gets rewarded for his tireless efforts up and down the flanks in this and previous matches with his first goal of the year and in the process helps pile even more misery upon the LA Galaxy which is always fun to watch. #9) Sept. 8 Rapids at Galaxy: Mehdi's Laser Beam
Mehdi Ballouchy scores his first career goal for the Burgundy & Blue as he rips home a blast from the top of the box to pull one back for the good guys at the Home Depot Center. The fantastic strike sounds like it hits a TV microphone in the back of the goal net for added impact and commentator Max Bretos calls it "a wonder strike". WATCH THE GOAL VIDEO

#10) Oct. 14 Rapids at Chivas: Hasta la Vista Goats!
This goal's all about the build-up and the importance of what was riding on the line! Omar Cummings scores the most pivotal goal of his young career as he is fed off a fantastic individual effort by Conor Casey who beats a Chivas defender and crosses to Cummings who scores in the dying seconds of the match to make Colorado the only team to beat Chivas at home this year and keep the Rapids' playoff hopes alive.
