Rapids Reserves Defeat FC Dallas Reserves 3-0 in Make-Up Match

COMMERCE CITY CO (Wednesday September 17 2008) – The Colorado Rapids Reserves won convincingly over the FC Dallas Reserves 3-0 in a morning match at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on Wednesday.
The match was a make-up game from June 1 that had to be rescheduled due to the Rapids' U.S. Open Cup "play-in" match against Kansas City.
These two teams faced off against each other not even two weeks earlier with the FC Dallas Reserves winning 2-1 at Pizza Hut Park.
Nico Colaluca scored two goals while Christian Gomez added a goal and an assist to lead Colorado to their third Reserve Division win of the season.
The Rapids controlled much of the offensive play throughout the first half keeping the pressure on the Dallas defense.
Christian Gomez did not disappoint playing in his Reserve team match debut showing the quick footwork in midfield that has become his trademark keeping defenders busy and perplexed. Gomez sent a flawless pass to the foot of Peterson in the 21st minute but the young striker sent the ball wide left just off target.
In the 39th minute Gomez played the ball in a tricky spin move to evade his opponent which created space for a quick pass to Ciaran O’Brien who sent the ball toward Nico Colaluca. Colaluca redirected the ball in front of outstretched goalkeeper Josh Lambo and sent it to the back of the net to put Colorado on the board and give the Rapids a 1-0 halftime lead.
FC Dallas’ offense came alive in the second half forcing Bouna Condoul to come up with some big saves to preserve the shutout. In the 53rd minute Dallas was given an indirect free kick just five yards from goal. When the whistle blew Coundoul rushed out from his line knocking it away with a sliding save.
Gomez put Colorado up by two goals in the 70th minute after taking the ball down the left side of the field cutting back and then taking a calculated shot. The shot came from the left side of the goal and whizzed past Lambo to find the far side of the net.
In the 77th minute Rapids newcomer Kwame Sarkodie carried the ball downfield for 50 yards and responded to a tough finishing angle by passing the ball to an on-rushing Colaluca who buried it directly into the net.
The Rapids Reserves were able to hold off a tireless FC Dallas Reserves effort to secure the victory and move their record to 3-4-2 with three games remaining in the 2008 MLS Reserve Division season.
