Rapids Reserves Drop 3-2 Decision to Houston Reserves

COMMERCE CITY CO. (Sunday June 22 2008) – The Rapids Reserves scored two second half goals but the deficit was too large as the Houston Dynamo Reserves captured a 3-2 victory at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on Sunday afternoon.
A pair of goals by Houston’s Kyle Brown paved the way for the visiting club as the two-time defending Reserve Division champion Rapids fell to 1-2-2 on the season.
The Dynamo registered the match’s first goal in the 14th minute when Kyle Brown secured a ball chipped over the defense by Erik Ustruck for a one-on-one opportunity with Chris Sharpe. Brown was then able to tuck the ball in the back of the net for the early Houston lead.
Both sides found many of their opportunities throughout the first half on set pieces and corner kicks.
Houston build up a 2-0 advantage in the 36th minute when following a Rapids corner kick Tony Caig hauled in the cross and quickly distributed it to a streaking Brown down the middle of the pitch. Brown carried the ball nearly 70 yards finishing by splitting two Colorado defenders in the box and finding a left footed score past a diving Sharpe.
Franco Caraccio wasted no time adding to the Dynamo lead early in the second half. Off a corner kick from John Michael Hayden Caraccio headed through a back post goal to put Houston up 3-0 in the 46th minute.
The Rapids got a goal back in the 52nd minute when Herculez Gomez took a Kosuke Kimura pass and raced down the right side only to finish with a beautiful chip over the ‘keeper outstretched arms.
Colorado added a final goal with only seconds remaining in the contest as guest player and former Rapid Seth Trembly fired a free kick into the side netting from just outside the box.
The Rapids next Reserve match is July 12 against the San Jose Earthquake Reserves at UC-SC Training Field at 4:30pm MT.
