Rapids Weekly Team Update

COMMERCE CITY CO (4/29/08) – The Colorado Rapids will train five times at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park this week in preparation for their first Sunday match of the season. The players had Monday off and returned to the pitch this morning under beautiful weather.
Tuesday’s session began much like it did last week at this time with the players being put through various fitness stations. Much of the remainder of training was spent with the coaches working on specific tactics to sharpen the players' skills for this weekend’s match.

For the second week in a row Colorado will be holding a Wednesday scrimmage against a collegiate opponent. This week the University of New Mexico will travel north to face the Rapids. The Lobos are 4-0-1 in spring action this season.

All but two players participated in training on Tuesday.
John DiRaimondo (high ankle sprain) and Justin Hughes (groin) sat out but worked just as hard as their teammates (if not harder) on their fitness and rehab. Both are looking better in their progress and look to return to the pitch soon.
Conor Casey participated fully in Tuesday’s session as did Ugo Ihemelu who saw game action in the scrimmage against the University of Denver last week.

Today's quote comes from head coach Fernando Clavijo looking ahead to this Sunday’s match against DC United:
"I think we need to win at home and get a result. It is important for us to have a good home record and establish our pace to the game when we are playing here in Colorado.
"DC United are a very good team with Gallardo and others. We need to make our jobs easier and finish the opportunities we have. We played very well our first three games and we need to get back to that aggression and pace."
